With rising operational costs and lower L&D budgets in companies, Gen Z is struggling to find the right mentors that would help them grow in their careers in a meaningful and impactful way.

By benchmarking against similar products in my competitive analysis and research, I was able to gain insight into how existing features accommodate to current user needs and the gap that exists across all of the benchmarked products used in my analysis. This helped identify core features that are considered priority and features that would be interesting to experiment with.

The goal of the user interviews is to understand the current experience of my target demographic and further deep dive in the pain points their experiencing when it comes to the mentorship. I conducted semi-structured interviews with 6 participants, split between mentors and mentees to gain an understanding from different sides.

Based on the insights collected, I started to brainstorm on ideas and features that would address core problems mentioned in the interviews. The brainstorming session allowed to me ideate on possible modules or existing features that would provide an end-to-end experience when it comes to a mentorship platform.

After sketching the variations, I used them as guidelines to begin my wireframing process. Throughout the exercise, I was able to include different elements of each variation into my wireframes. I developed a more comprehensive user flow based on the feedback I received in my user interviews as well as the analysis I developed across competitor products.

Mentorship is a scarce resource especially as the workplace becomes more fragmented over time and newer working models. With Consiliere, entrants to the job market are able to organically develop relationships with potential mentors in a space that is dedicated to community, learning and growth. This allows everyone who is part of the community to give back and learn from each other through conversation and online-to-offline meets.
